Point Lay's Nalukatak is just about ready to begin (part 2 of 10)

This is a little risky for me, because I don't want to miss anything, but I went over to Nora Itta's for coffee and Eskimo donuts this morning and shot just a few pictures to and from, of final preparations and so I decided to make a quick post before the festivities begin.
Here, Nora's son John Jr. puts a near-final touch on the windbreak. It is quite cool and windy today, so this will be needed.
Captain Julius Rexford working on the windbreak.
Daniel, who would rather be whaling. Actually, he is whaling, because this is a part of it.

Remember little Uavauq, from last night? Here he is, this morning.
John and Martha share a kiss.
The man on the far right in the photo held by Nora Itta is her first husband, John Nukapigak Sr., with two brothers. John died when their family was still very young. This photo was taken before she was married and is the only one that she has of him.
He was a whaler and his spirit is felt here, on this day. When Nora is in the boat with her son, whaling captain Thomas, his posture, hands and movements look just like those of his father.
Nora smiles at her late husband.
Now I must leave and head to Nalukatak. I expect to be busy there for the next 12-14 hours or so.
